Are Veneers Right For You?

Veneers are one of the most effective ways to treat a wide range of dental concerns including:

‍

  • Chipped teeth
  • Cracked teeth
  • Discolouration
  • Gaps
  • Asymmetry
  • Worn teeth

The process is straightforward, often with no need for surgery or other invasive procedures.

For more severe or complex cases, our experienced treatment coordinators will always discuss the best treatment options for you during your consultation appointment.

What are veneers?

What are veneers?

Veneers are a popular dental treatment that can be made from composite, porcelain, or hybrid materials and are applied to your teeth to hide imperfections and improve overall shape. There are multiple benefits to choosing veneers and in some cases can offer results that other treatments wouldn't be able to provide. The procedure will vary depending on which type of veneer you will choose, so it's important to know the difference.

Porcelain veneers are thin shells bonded to the front of your teeth, designed bespoke to you. They can be used to transform the shape, colour and symmetry of your smile.

‍

Ideal for more significant or complex cosmetic concerns, porcelain veneers offer the most durable, stain-resistant option of the three. They provide natural-looking results that can last for years with proper aftercare.

‍

Note that some preparation of the teeth is required for porcelain veneers so treatment is permanent and veneers will need to be replaced over time.

Composite veneers use tooth-coloured resin applied directly to the surface of your teeth, making them a quick and minimally-invasive way to improve the shape, colour and appearance of your smile.

‍

They’re ideal for disguising discolouration, minor crookedness, misshapen teeth and other imperfections, without the permanent tooth preparation required for porcelain veneers.

Hybrid veneers, often known as 3D veneers, combine both porcelain and composite for a glossy, stain-resistant finish that's more durable than traditional composite, while requiring little to no drilling compared with porcelain veneers.

‍

Hybrid 3D veneers are ideal for subtle reshaping and improving the symmetry of your smile. They can also often be completed as part of a Same Day Smile transformation.

Composite bonding, Veneers

I couldn’t be happier so far

Just had my second appointment at Dental Excellence and I couldn’t be happier so far! My initial consultation with Jack was absolutely faultless. He made me feel completely at ease and explained everything clearly, so I knew exactly what to expect on my journey towards getting composite veneers. My second appointment was with Harrison, who’ll be doing the actual treatment, and it was just as smooth. His attention to detail and the care he took throughout really stood out. Also, the lovely lady on reception, her warm welcome added to the wonderful experience. It makes such a difference when every part of the process feels this positive, especially when you're going through something as big as a smile makeover. I can’t wait to see the final results!

I am so happy with my new smile

Fabulous appointment today with Dr Alex. Two massive fillings re-done with precision. Pain free injection. Absolutely loved my mockups and can’t wait. Again everything done to the highest standard “Dr Alex’s” standard. A 5 hour appointment to fit my top composites and crowns. And remove the existing lowers. So much work. A further 4 hour appointment to fit my lower veneers. Many of my teeth have been challenging for her. Dr Alex works with precision and nothing less. She is gentle and always explains her next steps. I am so happy with my new smile. Thank you.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

What are veneers?

Veneers are thin coverings placed over the front of your teeth to improve their colour, shape, size and overall appearance. At Dental Excellence, we offer composite, porcelain and hybrid veneers, each offering different benefits depending on your smile goals.

What can veneers fix?

Veneers can be used to improve the overall shape and symmetry of your smile, addressing a wide range of cosmetic concerns including discolouration, chipped, worn or uneven teeth, as well as gaps and mild crookedness.

What types of veneers do you offer?

We offer three different types of veneers: composite, porcelain and hybrid 3D veneers.

‍

Composite veneers are a quick and minimally-invasive option whilst porcelain veneers require more preparation but provide highly durable and stain-resistant results.

‍

Hybrid veneers are a combination of the two, providing a balance of aesthetics, durability and minimal tooth preparation.

Which type of veneers are best for me?

Choosing between composite, porcelain or hybrid veneers will depend on your teeth, oral health, desired results, budget and the amount of tooth preparation you are comfortable with. At your consultation appointment, our expert clinicians will talk you through all of your treatment options, explain the difference between each and recommend the most suitable option.

Are veneers permanent?

Porcelain veneers are considered permanent as they require some removal of the natural tooth enamel. Composite veneers do not require the same level of preparation as porcelain veneers, so they can usually be removed or replaced, making them a more reversible option.

‍

Hybrid veneers also require little to no drilling in many cases, but may still involve some tooth preparation, so whether they are reversible will depend on the individual case.

Can veneers be removed?

Composite veneers can generally be removed or replaced, as they can be applied with little to no alteration to the natural tooth.

‍

Porcelain veneers are a permanent treatment because some natural enamel needs to be removed during preparation. The removability of hybrid veneers will depend on how they have been fitted and the preparation required.

Do veneers damage your natural teeth?

Some veneers involve altering the natural teeth, although this depends on the type of veneer. Composite and hybrid veneers typically require little to no drilling, meaning the natural teeth can often be left largely unchanged.

‍

Porcelain veneers, however, usually require some enamel to be removed before they can be fitted. This is an irreversible alteration to the natural tooth, so it is important to discuss the level of preparation required with your dentist before treatment.

How long do veneers last?

The lifespan of your veneers depends on the type you choose and how well you look after them. Composite veneers can last up to 7 years, while hybrid veneers can last around 5–7 years with good maintenance. Porcelain veneers generally last between 10-15 years.

Can veneers stain?

Porcelain veneers are highly resistant to staining and will retain their colour better than composite veneers. Composite veneers can become discoloured over time, particularly those who regularly drink tea, coffee, red wine and other staining foods and drinks. Hybrid veneers offer greater stain resistance than traditional composite veneers.

Can veneers be whitened?

Veneers do not respond to whitening treatments in the same way natural teeth do. If you are only getting veneers on single teeth and are considering teeth whitening, you should do this before so your veneers can be matched to your desired shade.

‍

You can also get sets of 10 or 20 veneers in a lighter shade than your natural teeth instead of whitening.

Are veneers painful?

Getting veneers should not be a painful experience. Both composite and hybrid veneers typically involve little to no drilling making them a minimally-invasive procedure with very little recovery time required.

Porcelain veneers require more preparation but still should not be painful. Your dentist will explain the process beforehand and ensure you're comfortable throughout your treatment.

How long does it take to get veneers?

Both composite and hybrid veneers can often be completed in a single appointment and may be available as part of our Same Day Smile makeover.

‍

Porcelain veneers require additional appointments for measurements, a practice fitting and the final fitting of your bespoke veneers.

How much do veneers cost?

The cost of veneers depends on the type you choose, the number of teeth being treated and the complexity of your case.

‍

During your consultation, we'll create a personalised treatment plan and provide a clear breakdown of the costs involved. Flexible finance options are also available.

How do I care for my veneers?

Caring for veneers is similar to caring for your natural teeth. Brush and floss regularly, attend routine dental check-ups and avoid biting hard objects or using your teeth to open things. Good oral hygiene and regular professional care can help maintain the appearance and longevity of your veneers.

Can I get veneers if I have crooked teeth?

Veneers can improve the appearance of mildly crooked or uneven teeth by changing their shape and proportions. They don't physically move your natural teeth, however, so more significant alignment issues may be better treated with orthodontics such as Invisalign.

Can veneers fix gaps between teeth?

Yes, in some cases veneers can be used to close or disguise gaps between teeth by carefully altering their shape and size. Whether veneers are suitable will depend on the size of the gap, the health and position of your teeth.

‍

At your consultation, our expert clinicians will assess your teeth and suggest the best treatment options for you.

Can veneers be repaired if they chip or break?

In some cases, veneers can be repaired, although this depends on the type and extent of the damage. Composite veneers are generally easier to repair than porcelain veneers. If your veneers becomes damaged, get in touch and we'll assess it to recommend the most appropriate solution.

What is the difference between veneers and composite bonding?

Both treatments use composite material to improve the appearance of your teeth, but they are used differently.

‍

Composite bonding involves applying resin to specific areas of the tooth to correct imperfections, while composite veneers cover the entire visible surface of the tooth. Composite bonding is often the more conservative option, whilst more significant changes can be made using composite veneers.
